Honeymoon Road Trip Day 4: Redwoods

Thirty years is not a long time to be alive. And yet, it represents Camille's entire life so far. Isn't that remarkable?

Yesterday was a dance with the divine. We visited Redwoods National Park, and it was everything I was expecting and more. I cannot put into words the grandeur of those ancient arboreal angels. You simply must see it for yourself. What Camille and I captured there was some of the best work we've ever done.

Here's a particularly interesting shot she produced just as we were leaving the park. The sun was quickly setting, so we raced back to the car, concerned about getting stuck in the northern Cali woods with no service and zero visibility. Thankfully, we were fast on our feet. Take a look at one last shot I got right before we left. The colors in this forest are immaculate this time of year, a kaleidoscope of vibrant yellows, searing reds, and tranquil greens. Mother Nature was showing out.

Dutch Bros. Coffee fueled the entire adventure. They make superb energy drinks. This right here tasted like a Sonic slushie. Camille's drink was much more seasonal and tasted like gingerbread. My freezing cold take is that PNW does coffee super well.

On our way to the hotel, we passed by what we believe to be Crescent Beach and friends... the sheer majesty of this quaint little coastal town left us a bit breathless. There's an authentic air of mystery and wonder embedded in scenes like these.

The waves crashing along the shore, the sea stacks erect in the distance, the surfers braving bone-chilling seas, the wind whistling in your ear, bearing the scent of salt and sand to blanket your nose, the fog mediating the interplay of it all.

Mankind has yet to develop tools to communicate this experience with the full capacity of its inherent splendor. Your eyes, ears, and nose are all the universe has given us to comprehend its grandeur. Come here and use them.

The hotel for the night was Redwood Hotel & Casino on the Yurok Indian Reservation. They have a restaurant, Abalone, where we picked up our dinner for the evening. I got a fish sandwich, and Camille got a patty melt, both with fries. We were all showered up and in bed by the time we sat down to eat. Exhaustion robbed our phones of the chance to eat, but Camille and I certainly didn't miss the opportunity. We called it a night on the eve of her 30th birthday. More fun to come in San Fran.
